Christian Sister Experiences KJO Divisiveness - 10/05/2008
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this
article.
I recently received an indepth (phew, really long,
scathing, accusing, assassinating!) controversial article from a
sister in Christ who believes the KJV is the only one that is correct
and without error!
Ironically, she reads out of several other
Bible versions too!
It was NOT until I had taught several
classes on healing and tithes/offerings that she approached me with
this!
I tried to show her how she was demeaning our meetings and
negating the 'building of faith' by getting into dispute on this,
(since I was using a Bible (NLT & NIV) other than the KJV (and NOT
even the 'key' disputed verses, at that, geeze!)but she had an
indepth, quite lengthy article that, in my spirit just did not set
right.
I came upon your article and it gave me the answers for
myself I needed that I could not put my finger on, but praise God,
the Holy Spirit will point us in the right direction when our hearts
are open to the Truth! Thank you.
Sincerely, a sister in Christ
forever and blessed with peace of mind,
Donna
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE: Donna, thanks so much for sharing this with us. That's so encouraging,
and means a lot to us that the Lord has used this ministry to help
you. The King James Only controversy is one of the most divisive and
destructive internal struggles in Christian churches today. The truth
itself should defuse this argument, but for some reason proponents of
the KJO view are often blinded to the truth. Sadly, they have become
so dogmatic that they have turned one translation of the Bible into an
idol. They worship the book instead of the Word written within. I've
heard from people whose church bodies have split over this issue. I've
heard from new Christians who were questioning their salvation because
they were led to Christ using an NIV Bible and someone told them that
was the "devil's Bible". I've been the target of the most hateful,
vitriolic words over this issue - and those words came from people who
claim to be Christians! You mentioned "article" (singular), so I want
to make sure you've seen all our related articles on this subject:
I also highly recommend the book The
King James Only Controversy, by Dr. James White. Thanks again for
sharing this with us. May God bless you as you contend for the faith
and correct those who engage in "foolish and stupid arguments" (2
Timothy 2:23).
In Christ,
Ben Rast
