Worship: how many times per week? - 11/29/2004
Hello. I really like reading your website and I am in agreement with you on everything. I am just curious to understand if there is scripture that instructs us to worship God a specific amount of times per week or month. Most Churches worship 3 times per week.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:
Hi Hobert. Thanks for your words of encouragement. No, there are no Scriptural proscriptions for how often a church should meet each week. The church we attend has weekend services and a mid-week Bible study. According to the New Testament, Sunday was the day that the Christians gathered together for worship and tithing (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2). This became part of Christian tradition. Paul taught that this is an area that should not be divisive among Christians, however: "Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters.... One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind" (Rom. 14:1,5). In light of Paul's admonition, I would say that it doesn't matter how often your church holds services each week, or on which days. It is important that we not forsake the fellowship with other believers, and even more important that we not restrict our worship of God to when we are in church. We can, and should, offer God our praise and worship daily, whether at home or at church. I hope this helps. God bless.
