Interested in Wicca - 04/18/2004
I am writing you today because I have always been interested in witchcraft or the wicca which ever you prefer to call it. However, I do not know much about it. I have recently started to research little about it and I told my boyfriend who is a Christian that I would maybe like to start to "practice" witchcraft. I know for a fact I would not practice it if it did harm to anyone, only if it was for good. I was wondering if you could maybe explain to me what type of wicca's are out there that practice only good. I understand that they don't believe in god, but I do and if I practiced witchcraft would I have to choose? Could you possibly send me more information about the wicca and there purpose. Also if I would still be able to be baptized and remain as much of a Christian as I can be? My boyfriend wants me to become somewhat religious because we are looking to be married in the future and he just wants the best for me. So to make it as clear as possible about what I am asking ... if i practice witchcraft could I still remain somewhat religious(Christian)? Also if you could possibly send me information about the wicca, practice, purpose, and how to become/enter the wicca? Thank you for your time. Bless it be.
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:
Hi Julia. Thanks for writing to us. First, let me try
to separate two terms you used as being synonymous -- Christian and
religious. People can be religious about many things, Julia, and it doesn't
make them right. Muslims, Mormons, Satanists, Wiccans, etc., all can be quite
religious. Being "religious" implies nothing more than a level of devotion.
People can be religious about being Christians, but they can also be religous
in their devotion to their favorite baseball team. I am completely devoted to
the Lord Jesus Christ, but no "religion" will save me. Jesus Christ purchased
my salvation, and I commit my life to Him. I communicate to Him through
prayer, and He communicates to me via inspiration and also through His Word --
the Bible. Jesus is THE way and THE truth, and THE life (John 14:6), so
"religion" doesn't factor in to my being a Christian.
That being said, I'm not sure why you would want to get
into witchcraft. Quite honestly, while most Wiccans and pagans deny the
existance of Satan, he is very real, and uses witchcraft to corrupt and
deceive. Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are works of fiction, and
they do not show the evil behind witchcraft, nor its consequences. Witchcraft
is real, but it is the power of Satan that is at work there. I hear much said
about the noble intentions of some witches, and how Wiccans are not supposed
to do harm. But all of that is window dressing. People who think that Satan
wouldn't make something evil look noble and appealing are deluding themselves.
In 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, we read, "And no wonder, for Satan himself
masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants
masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions
Julia, the Bible openly condemns witchcraft and sorcery.
Revelation 9:20-21 says, "The rest of mankind that were not killed by
these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not
stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and
wood--idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their
murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts."
If you do not yet realize how serious this is, Revelation 21:8 says, "But
the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral,
those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their
place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second
death." This is a pretty serious condemnation! I encourage you to read
the Bible, and to draw near to the one true God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
through prayer and worship. It is THIS faith that saves your soul, and
fulfills your needs. I will not send you information on how to enter into
Wicca/Witchcraft. You should just as well ask me to drive you off a cliff. I
will not send you into something where your soul will be in jeopardy. Please
don't go in that direction, Julia. All you need is Jesus in your life. When
He is, then I promise you a life of fulfillment and happiness, regardless of
