A Wiccan Unhappy With Us - 04/18/2004
I happen to be Wiccan, and I was very unhappy with many of the things that you said on your site; not just about my faith, but many other faiths as well. I know that it is your opinion, and you have the right to it, but is it really necessary to bash other peoples' religions on your stupid website? We don't do things like that to you, so why do you insist on doing it to us? So maybe we have a difference of opinion, but that doesn't mean we're bad, or that we're wrong in thinking what we do. In the same way, I'm not saying that you're wrong either, it's just not what I choose to believe in. I have a lot of Christian friends who don't care that I believe what I do. You are acting very close minded and ignorant. Science has disproved so many of your biblical theories and whatnot to be wrong. Even though this fact is presented, you still choose to believe in what you do.
How is it any of your business to tell people what to believe? Do we really need a repeat of the Burning Times and all of the ridiculous witch trials? People like you caused those things. But did we ever, once persecute you for what you chose to believe? No, we didn't because it's your right. I also don't believe in the Bible, and I think it's ok to be gay. Don't be so judgemental. Relax and live a little. Get out and enjoy Mother Earth. Oh, and by the way, you may not like it, but Christianity and many of its beliefs came from Paganism. There's proof to that. I find myself far more mature and intelligent than you, and I am only 16 and a sophomore in high school. You believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want, but please, let me believe that in peace without your judgemental bashing. That's all I ask. You can pray to your god for me all you want, but it won't help. You can't change my mind about my beliefs. I will pray to the God and Goddess for your mind to be opened.
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:
Hi Kalieh. Thanks for writing to us and sharing your opinions. You seem to want the freedom to practice your beliefs, but you don't extend to us the same courtesy. You need to understand where we're coming from. You view religious beliefs much like musical tastes. You're into Wicca, but choose not to believe Christianity. It's okay that we believe Christianity, but don't push it on others, and don't criticize other religions. Kalieh, we're not exposing other religious beliefs simply because we don't like them. I don't like rap music, but I wouldn't have a website condemning rap music. One thing you seem to not believe in is absolute truth. We do believe in absolute truth. Just as there are physical laws that exist regardless of our belief (gravity will still hold me down, even if I decide I don't believe in gravity), there are spiritual laws at work that exist regardless of your belief and disbelief. Under those laws, mankind is a created being who has sinned against our Creator. As a just God, that sin must be punished. Jesus took our punishment for us, but we have to choose to accept that. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). That is the truth, whether you believe in it or not! Now, if I don't accept Wicca to be true, according to your beliefs, what becomes of me? Nothing? Yet if what I believe is as true as I know it to be, what happens to you if you fail to accept Christ? Eternal condemnation. We don't want anyone to face that -- hence, our web-based ministry. When the stakes are eternal souls, we will not just "live and let live." To do so is to not care about your eternal destination!
Before I let you go, I need to clear up some misinformation you have. Christianity is not based on paganism. Whoever told you that is incredibly ignorant of history. You say there's proof to that, so present your proof. Second, you are woefully misinformed if you think science has disproven my beliefs. It has not. If you think it has, name the beliefs that science has disproven, and present the scientific evidence you base that on. If you have that kind of evidence, we better hold a news conference, as you'd be the first in the world.
Now, I said that to correct your misinformation, not to belittle you. You think yourself wise, but you're not quite there. The truth I mentioned in the first paragraph is true today, and it will continue to be true tomorrow. It will not cease being true because you choose not to believe it, at your own peril. Jesus commanded us to share the gospel with the whole world. Furthermore, the Bible tells us to "contend for the faith" (Jude 3,4). That is what we are doing, and will continue to do so, even if you think it's "stupid." You told me to relax and live a little. Kalieh, I have a great, happy life, that will continue eternally. We just want you to have that too.
