Following closely many of the beliefs of the New Age
Movement, The Infinite Way was founded by Joel S.
Goldsmith (1892-1964), and is named for his first book,
"The Infinite Way", published in 1947. According
to their website, the Infinite Way is a "mystical
message by which students are taught spiritual
principles to live by and practice for peace, harmony
and God realization". All of Goldsmith's teachings
in their original form are distributed from the IW home
office, established in 1951. In an effort to keep
Goldsmith's message "pure", the home office is the only
office and the only source of his teachings.
Books, tapes, classes and study materials containing his
original message are available (for a price) to all
students of the Infinite Way. Through his
teachings, Goldsmith promises his followers a higher
consciousness, which he teaches is actually God.
By training yourself to believe that good and evil are
an illusion, you will realize the spiritual kingdom
where there are no laws, boundaries, or price to pay.
Once ascended to this level of consciousness you have
become divine.
As unbiblical as these beliefs are, Goldsmith manages to
use Bible verses to support his teachings in many
instances. It is a New Age faith tailored to
appeal to those who may have a limited Christian
background. Many Christian words and ideas,
although twisted, are used liberally, making the
deception all that much more dangerous to a lost world.
Below
is a general comparison chart of some Infinite Way
beliefs versus Christianity:

CHRISTIANITY |

Reaching a transcendental consciousness that is
available to everyone causes a rebirth into a new
man, the son of God |
|
No
transcendental state is needed. We are made new
through the saving grace of Jesus Christ who took
the sins of the world upon himself as a living
sacrifice so that we might have eternal life through
him.
II
Corinthians 5:17 - 21 "Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the
new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled
us to himself through Christ and gave us the
ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling
the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's
sins against them. And he has committed to us the
message of reconciliation. We are therefore
Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his
appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's
behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had
no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might
become the righteousness of God."

|
|
To
attain higher consciousness we must first realize
that God constitutes individual being. God is in
all of us as consciousness. |
|
The
God of the Bible is transcendent and separate from
His creation.
"As
the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your
thoughts" Isaiah 55:9
"I
am God, and there is none like me." Isaiah 46:9
"This time I will send the full force of my plagues
against you and against your officials and your
people, so you may know that there is no one like me
in all the earth." Exodus 9:14
God
is not Consciousness. He is spirit
John 4:24 "God is spirit, and his worshipers must
worship in spirit and in truth."

|
One
should not turn to God for anything. Be still and
let God reveal itself within you. It is no use
seeking God. All you have to do is inherit it. God
already is." |
|
All
that is needed for salvation through Christ is to
seek God and ask. As is evidenced by this world and
the teachings of the Bible, there is evil. To avoid
God is to invite deception, false teachings, and a
false security based on human desire.
"And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of
your father, and serve him with wholehearted
devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord
searches every heart and understands every motive
behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be
found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject
you forever." I Chronicles 28:9
"The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who
seek the Lord lack no good thing." Psalms 34:10
"Evil men do not understand justice, but those who
seek the Lord understand it fully." Proverbs 28:5
"Ask and it will be given to your; seek and you will
find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For
everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and
to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
Matthew 7:8

|
All
problems in the universe are caused by the belief in
two powers, good and evil. God as consciousness is
the only power.
|
|
Good and evil are not one. They are diametric
opposites. To say that good and evil originate in
the same source violates a key principle of logic -
something cannot be both "A" and "non-A" at the same
time.
While God doesn't want his people taking revenge
against those who do wrong (Matthew 5:39), he does
expect His people to oppose evil in themselves and
in society.
"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that
when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand
your ground" (Eph. 6:13)
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you" (Jas 4:7).
"Be
self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion looking for
someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the
faith, because you know that your brothers
throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of
sufferings." (I Peter 5:8-9)
Satan would want us to believe his evil influence on
this Earth is acceptable and to be embraced. If a
person teaches either that there is no evil or evil
is the same as good, they are in direct opposition
to what God's Word tells us. The Bible warns us not
to turn to such teachings.
"I
am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the
one who called you by the grace of Christ and are
turning to a different gospel - which is really no
gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing
you into confusion and are trying to pervert the
gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from
heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we
preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!"
(Galatians 1:6-8)

Good and Evil are illusions. To realize this is to
realize the spiritual kingdom. Where there are no
laws, boundaries, or price to pay. |
|
God
is very clear on the dangers of this line of
thinking.
"Woe to those who call good evil and evil good, who
put darkness for light and light for darkness, who
put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter." (Isaiah
5:20)
"Beware of turning to evil, which you seem to prefer
to affliction" (Job 36:21)
"Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he
guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers
them from the hand of the wicked." (Psalms 97:10)
The
ability to discern good and evil is a sign of
maturity:
"But solid food is for the mature, who by constant
use have trained themselves to distinguish good from
evil" (Hebrews 5:14)
Whether you believe in sin or not, it exists and
there is a penalty for that sin. Jesus Christ paid
that price for us if we are willing to accept it.
"For the wages of sin are death, but the gift of God
is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
(Romans 6:23)
"The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
to cut off the memory of them from the earth"
(Psalms 34:16)

Nothing on the outer plane can bring you peace, joy,
security or freedom. The Infinite invisible is your
rock. (The Infinite Way Letters 1955, by Joel
Goldsmith) |
|
"The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield
and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold,
my refuge and my savior - from violent men you save
me. I call on the Lord who is worthy of praise, and
I am saved from my enemies." (II Samuel 22:2-4)
"Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord,
is the Rock eternal." (Isaiah 25:4)
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
and puts them into practice is like a wise man who
built his house on the rock. The rain came down,
the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat
against that house; yet it did not fall, because it
had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who
hears these words of mine and does not put them into
practice is like a foolish man who built his house
on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and
the winds blew and beat against that house, and it
fell with a great crash." (Matthew 7:24-27)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self control…" (Galatians 5:22)
"The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord
blesses his people with peace." (Psalms 29:11)

We
are bound to earth by an illusion brought on by a
fascination with human good. As we dwell on good
more we gain freedom from limitation. We should not
fear evil or love the good of human existence. As
the shackles of limitation fall away this gives way
to eternal life. |
|
Psalms 34:14 "Turn from evil and do good; seek peace
and pursue it."
Romans 12:9 "Love must be sincere. Hate what is
evil; cling to what is good."
Ephesians 2:8,9 "For it is by grace you have been
saved, through faith - and this is not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so
that no one can boast."
John 5:24 Jesus said "I tell you the truth, whoever
hears my word and believes Him who sent me has
eternal life and will not be condemned; he has
crossed over from death to life."
